President's Message
Greetings from the Board of Directors of your Houston NIRI Chapter! I hope everyone had a wonderful Spring Break! It’s hard to believe that Spring / Summer are upon us, but I am happy to share that your Board has been hard at work planning some great programming events to close out our 2023 – 2024 programming year.
As we move into Spring, we have partnered with several great organizations – AMA, IABC, and PRSA – to host our “Meet Us In The Woods” networking / happy hour event on Wednesday, April 3rd at the Kirby Ice House – Woodlands location on Lake Robbins Drive. The Board has been looking to partner with similar organizations to provide opportunities for networking and to make connections with other like-minded professionals throughout the Houston area. It would be fantastic to see as many of our chapter members and guests as possible at this event. Feel free to forward the event listing to friends, co-workers, and other IR / finance / communications / marketing professionals; please register for this free event at the following Houston NIRI Woodlands Mixer.
We have also rescheduled our January programming event that was cancelled due to inclement weather to Thursday, May 16th at The Houston Racquet Club on Memorial Drive near Voss Road. Our chapter partner, Alliance Advisors, will lead a lively discussion on Shareholder Proposals – Year Two of the Universal Proxy with Sean Donahue, Partner at Paul Hastings. This is clearly a programming event you will not want to miss considering the proxy season will have just concluded, and I am sure some great stories and lessons will be told. Please be aware that seating will be limited, so please register at the following Houston NIRI May Luncheon.
Finally, we will have our NIRI Houston Chapter Board election in April with the new Board to be presented at our May 16th programming event. Going forward, it is our plan to revert back to having Board elections every even year, and hosting our IRO Summit in Houston every odd year, with our next summit planned for September of 2025. Focusing on the Board election, we plan to send out an email to every NIRI Houston Chapter member with the candidate slate in early April. As any volunteer organization experiences, we have a few Board members not standing for re-election, but we have several excellent candidates running to fill very important positions for the 2024 – 2026 Board term. When you receive your ballot, I highly encourage you to vote for all of the candidates. The Board has worked very hard to recruit qualified candidates that are dedicated to making our NIRI Houston chapter a success. Please fill out your ballot as soon as you receive it because the Board will begin planning for the 2024 – 2025 programming year in May.
To conclude, this will be my final President’s message as I transition to the Treasurer role for my final term on the NIRI Houston Board. I wanted to personally thank all of you for making our Houston Chapter one of the most successful within NIRI, which was not a small feat coming out of COVID back in 2021. A testament of our success was receiving a certificate of recognition from NIRI National for excellence in membership growth after increasing our member count just over 50% in 2022 – 2023. We couldn’t have achieved this level of success without the support and dedication of our members!
As we look to the future, I would highly encourage you to consider serving on the Board – the strength and success of our Chapter is dependent on the quality and leadership skills of our Board members. Over the past 2+ years, this Board accomplished a lengthy and aggressive set of goals and streamlined many processes, which has made serving on the Board a lot of fun and a minimal time commitment.
My door is always open for comments, suggestions, and general feedback, so please feel free to reach out to me directly at [email protected].
On behalf of the Board of the Houston Chapter of NIRI, we appreciate your support and look forward to seeing you for our final programming events of the season.
Regards,
Daniel Jenkins
